Craniomaxillofacial (CMF) is a surgical specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired deformities of the cranial and facial skeleton and their associated soft tissue envelope. Congenital deformities include malformations of the skull, orbits and jaws whereas acquired deformities will include traumatic injuries as well benign and malignant neoplasms (tumors) that affect this anatomic region.
The AOCMF organization is a global network of surgeons, scientists and other relevant groups, highly specialized in the field of craniomaxillofacial surgery. It unites the subspecialties oral and maxillofacial surgeons, general surgeons, otolaryngologist/ENT surgeons, plastic & reconstructive surgeons, neurosurgeons, and oculoplastic surgeons and others in order to advance practice of operational CMF surgery worldwide. The AO CMF specialty brings together surgeons from all these different disciplines.
